We decided to book a night in Galway exactly a year to the date of the wedding. Obviously the hotel choice was Galway Bay! Firstly the weather was absolutely gorgeous. Ireland is so unpredictable with weather that you can’t bank on sunshine but it was lovely to see April so warm and sunny.
We arrived to our room and were met with a plate of mini desserts, fruit and bottled water with a hand written note welcoming us back from the manager. Its these little touches that just confirm in your mind that you’ve picked the perfect venue.
Spiddel is a short drive from Salthill and we visited the little craft village there. Well worth a visit! The most beautiful little shops stocking fab irish handcrafted products. There are some lovely jewellery shops that could see you pick up little gifts for bridesmaids!
We had a bite to eat in the hotel bar. The food is delicious here and a really nice atmosphere. We decided to have a walk around Salthill and we were delighted to see a Ferris Wheel and amusements right beside the hotel. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed they are here next year ! We wandered down the promenade to the amusesment arcades ( a must !) and won a few teddies for the kids, felt like being on holidays as a child, the amusements were always such a treat.
We also had a visit into the city, Galway is such a beautiful destination for a break away, even just a day exploring. The good weather meant the streets were alive with all the bars and cafes bustling with diners sitting al fresco !
Planning your wedding in a location away from your locality is hard and taking trips when you can is well worth it. Even just to scout out photo locations , its great to get your head around it all. I’m so glad the hotel is living up to expectations even a year before the big day ! Big thumbs up for Galway Bay Hotel and their brilliant staff!
