Wedding Themes have become more and more popular over the years. There are no rules where themes are concerned, you can go as crazy as you like! There is an increase in cool and retro themes such as 80s themes weddings and Avengers and Star Wars themes! Whatever your loves or interest, choosing a theme allows you to put a really personal touch on your big day. So where do you start in creating this awesome, totally personal experience?
Firstly you have to agree on a theme. Its no good if he wants a Man Utd themed wedding and you want greatest hits by Madonna theme! You have to find common ground, something that means something to both of you or at least something that you can both get behind!
So you’ve got your basic themes which are themes like vintage, boho chic, garden fete, classic romance, rustic, seaside, the list is endless. Then you have the more personal themes which would be things personal to you, some that really catch our attention are Harry Potter, Lord of The Rings, 80s Music or 80s Movies, Famous Couples, Greatest Love Songs, Star Wars, Disney, Sports Themes, Places we’ve been to, again an infinite list!
So this is how you can portray your theme across your whole wedding. We are using this Alice In Wonderland Theme for an example of how to create a story! Your first contact with your guests is your invitations. Most couples on a themed wedding will make sure to express the theme in their invites, mass books etc. For a theme like Alice in Wonderland you have so much scope. So take the elements of the theme that you can use. When you think of Alice in Wonderland you think of the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts, deck of cards, the Tea Party. Save pictures to give you some inspiration. So start with your invite. Most invitation companies can match lots of elements for the day to carry your theme throughout, like menus, tags for favours, and also personalised sweet suppliers can do the same. Your cake maker can create an amazing cake based on your theme. You can have photo props in Alice theme, you can organise with your venue to have a “Tea Party” on arrival with teacups, biscuits etc. You can hire some amazing décor companies to add that extra little touch or equally have it all planned out and get someone you trust to oversee the set up on the day!
Another touch for this theme is a chequered dance floor, we love this one from Dancefloors.ie. It just adds to the whole experience.
The table plan again can be a diy project. This one from Enchanted Stationery was made with a trellis from Dealz and was decorated with themed cards matching the invites, bunting, cool teacup pegs and playing cards.
For favours you could have mini drink bottles with tags saying “Drink Me” or cupcakes/sweet bags with tags saying “Eat Me”, there is so much you can do!
The one thing you need is TIME! If you are planning a themed wedding the most important factor is time. You need time to plan and source. Depending on your budget you can hire somebody to do it for you or you can DIY it. For DIY you need the time and responsible people to put it in place on the day as the bride and groom really don’t need to be stressing about table layouts on the morning of the wedding!
So get thinking, make it magic and personal and something that your guests will fondly remember!
